What did last years students say?
“I’ve learnt that excellence and perfection should be at the core of all I do as journalist. It’s a tough industry and the course opened my eyes to the real and professional expectations that media professionals and journalists would expect of me. I’ve learnt practical things that my degree would have never taught me. Our one to one sessions were so useful, I always had more direction after having a one to one and it was attention to detail that I wouldn’t have received at university.”
Tobi Akingbade, Music Writer
“I’ve had quite a lot of experience and motivation prior to this course but I have learnt so much here. This was a refresh and really made me re-address my skills as a journalist including improving my writing skills. I think Shine Media is brilliant and just what the doctor ordered, especially in times of austerity and with high numbers of unemployment I think it’s just brilliant. There are not many diverse faces around the newsroom and it can feel quite exclusive, a scheme like this is amazing for injecting some diversity into the media industry, which is as it should be.”
Funmi Olutoye, ITV News Trainee
“The teachers and professionals are amazing – they were one of the best parts of this project. They’ve all been where we are and they understand what we are going through. The speakers made our ambitions seem achievable and to hear from people from similar backgrounds to you becoming so successful is so motivating.”
Tafadzwa Murape, Entertainment Writer
